You’re so pretty they say
I blink, and the wasps come
they sting my temples creating welts
the size of basketballs

You’re beautiful they say
I smile, and ants crawl
through my teeth at an alarming pace
I cannot breathe at all.

You’re so gorgeous they say
I inhale to say thanks
instead of words scorpions climb up
my throat to sting my tongue.

Nobody sees the welts
the thick army of ants and bugs
they say I’m pretty so what do I
have to complain about?
